Bio

Act As If was formed by songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Peter Verdell in 2003, with the sole intention of creating music that was both creative and captivating.

Although the idea seems fairly simple, it is one that many bands can’t seem to grasp. Act As If is not one of those bands.

After recording 2 self-produced EPs, and currently writing and recording several new songs, Verdell is very confident in the direction of both musical and professional progress.

Recent activity has found the band playing such notable LA venues as The Troubadour, and with esteemed bands including The Higher (Epitaph), Over It (Virgin), Self Against City (Drive-Thru), Everybody Else (The Militia Group), The Daylights (Epic/Sony), An Angle (Drive-Thru), Number One Gun (Tooth and Nail), and Barcelona (Warner Chappell).

SKRATCH MAGAZINE had some very flattering words for the band’s debut effort:

"This seven-song EP debut from Southern California artist Peter Verdell is a slick, catchy package that is sure to turn heads in the music industry. With a vaguely emo/hard-rock alternative style and a truckload of biting hooks, this is music that haunts and inspires. Though up until recently Verdell was doing solo acoustic sets live, he's finally settled on a permanent quartet to bring a harder edge to his live shows. While many young musicians make obvious blunders on debut albums, it's tough to find any fault with this disc. Perhaps the only thing wrong with it is that it isn't a full-length album."

STEROKILLER.COM shared an equally positive sentiment:

Musically it's kinda like The Get Up Kids. Midpaced-to-slow rock jams with a lot of pop elements; acoustic guitars and a motherf*cking xylophone. It's a well played and produced pop record."

In addition to the positive response from concertgoers, myspace users, and various well-known industry friends, one of the more popular songs from the EP, “Please Catch Up,” was recently licensed for an upcoming primetime ABC reality show entitled “Greg Behrendt’s Wake Up Call.”

With an album’s worth of new songs currently being demoed/recorded, the band is very hopeful and anxious to continue laying the foundation for a successful career, and ready to work for opportunities to gain friends, fans, and like-minded business partners. They believe in music being one of the most incredible forms of expression and art, and are eager to affect people in ways that their favorite bands and artists have affected them.
