Act As If on CBS's Live to Dance :]
It's been a fun week, internet. Tuesday night's show w/ Barcelona was a real gem--it's a pleasure whenever our bands' paths cross. And yes, last night our song "About Saying & Meaning Goodbye" played on CBS's Live To Dance [during the background story on Jalen]. We have an acoustic set this Sunday night in Eagle Rock--across the street from Christian Assembly church. It'll be low key, but probably kinda sensual, ya know? I don't know.
Until then!

In the meantime, we've recently posted a couple new videos on youtube, so check them out. And if you don't have our album yet...umm...you should grab it on Amazon MP3 or iTunes!

Frozen Yogurt
is delicious, but there are too many options. Pinkberry, 21 Choices, Squeeze and Scoop?? Hmmm. On a non-ridiculous note...we have a handful of shows coming up--some full-band stuff around Southern California, and a little West Coast acoustic trek with Stacy Clark. (who is awesome) The new songs are getting mixed...slowly but surely. Hoping to have a new EP ready by the end of April...but I'll believe it when I see it :)

talk soon. -P

Oh hey there!
Sorry for neglecting you, website. What have we been doing? We've played some shows...been recording new music...and been watching a lot of LOST (too much, in fact). How is the internet? Still around? Okay cool. I'll keep you more updated this year, I promise.

Sincerely, Peter.

I Need Christmas EP
We recorded a Christmas song a while ago...and I thought it would be funn to make a digital-only EP for people who'd want to have it, along with a couple other songs that are 'rare' for us, and may not show up again for awhile. As of now, the EP will only be available at shows. EP includes:
1. I Need Christmas
2. Please Be Worth This
3. It's True

Hugs and Hugs, -Peter

11/17/2008
New shows w/ new songs!
We've got a couple special shows coming up...one next week at Molly Malones with Andrew Ripp (artist i played drums for all summer) and a great Nashville band named Philos. Then in Dec...we're doing our first 'Christmas Spectacular' at No Future Cafe! What is a Christmas Spectacular, you may be asking?? Good music, fancy lights perhaps, some hot chocolate, and friends! Lots of new songs will be making their way out on stage...and I can't wait. Hooray for new things! Hope November is treating you kindly.

-P

9/6/2008
Fall's a comin...
...and how. I've embarked on a 4-week tour of the east coast / canada, drumming for Andrew Ripp. Looking forward to playing some drums everynight, and seeing new cities and faces. I've got my flight booked to be back in CA on Sept 30th...at which point Act As If will be coming back to life. Weeee :) Tons of songs to get recorded...yuck. Well, "yay" at the same time. Mostly..."yay" when they're all done and sound absolutely great :) Okay...talk soon.

-Peter

8/4/2008
Well, it's August.
I've been in Chicago for the past 2 months, playing drums for my friend Andrew Ripp...taking a little break from Southern California, and Act As If. There have been some fairly intense ups and downs, and I'm not exactly sure where I'll be a month from now...but it's okay to be adventurous from time to time :) I will say that, without a doubt, I miss working on Act As If stuff a TON, and am reaaally looking forward to getting back to biznesss...and hopefully sooner than later. Anyway. I hope that summer is giving you lots of sun kisses, and red noses, and ice cream sandwiches!

-Peter

5/5/2008
May Flowers.
Well, it's Cinco de Mayo. I don't really know the significance of this holiday, but maybe i'll get a margarita and some tortilla chips later (?). Sounds like a plan. Ummm, so what's up? I've been playing some acoustic ventures...but we've got some full-band shows lined up for June...which should be marvelous. Oh yesss, I'm also turning 25 on May 21st! I think I'm actually growing younger though, so it should be okay. (deep breath...)

Talk to ya soon, -Peter

3/10/2008
New Song up on Myspace!
It's short and sweet. But definitely more 'sweet' I think. LISTEN NOW...and hopefully I'll finish getting some other jamz recorded soooon.

1/30/2008
Happy 08!
Thanks to everyone who listened to our Christmas song, and had nice things to say about it...it really means a lot! We will definitely have it more "widely available" for Winter '08 (ya know--itunes, amazon, etc...).

By the way...did you know that our EP is available on iTunes and Amazon MP3??!! We live in a digital age, my friends, and it was just time for us to get on with it, i s'pose. (PS, the Amazon MP3 store is waaay cool. The songs are only $.89 a piece, or our whole 7-Song EP for $6.23) It's super quick and easy.

Click below to check out either Amazon or iTunes...word!

12/24/2007
Happy Christmas Eve! Crazyness.

Well, in the spirit of this whole holiday thing...we just posted a new song on our myspace called "I Need Christmas." It will probably only be up through maybe New Year's Day or so...so eat it up while you can :)

CLICK HERE TO CHECK IT OUT!!!

XOXO.

-Peter

P.S. - my friend Mike did all the engineering & mixing for this song, and I think he did a fabulous job! We've got some more songs cooking as well...hopefully finish sooon.

11/29/2007
I was rumaging around the internet...and stumbled upon a newer review of our 7-Song EP (yeah...the one that's about 2 years old at this point). It's from a magazine/webzine called StereoKiller.com, a site that focuses mainly on hardcore/scene type stuff...so I was kind of surprised (and nervous...) to read the review. Anyway, here's a little chunk:

Musically it's kinda like The Get Up Kids. Midpaced-to-slow rock jams with a lot of pop elements; acoustic guitars and a motherf*cking xylophone. It's a well played and produced pop record."

Word.

11/15/2007
There is a new song posted on our myspace page, which you can check out HERE. The song is called "Breathe Out Slowly," and if you've seen us play anytime over the past year or so...then you've definitely heard it...and hopefully loved it :) Stay tuned for some other new songs to start showing up in the next couple of months, as well as some more shows!

-Peter

10/1/2007
The best thing about October is:
a) Dictionary Day
b) National Denim Day
c) Eleanor Roosevelt's Birthday
d) Halloween

(now, I'm not going to answer for you...but if I will say that jack-o-lanterns are pretty classy...as are scream-masks and fake blood, I suppose. And well, we're a pretty classy outfit...but I'll let you draw your own conclusions)

8/15/2007
Wow, it's almost the end of August, which means it's almost the end of summer, which means that it's basically 2008 already...craziness :) Things are well on the Act As If front, we have quite a few new songs that are written, and that we are anxious to start playing live (and hopefully record soon as well). Hmmm, how would I describe them...I guess the new songs sound a lot like the old songs, but a little better (?). I guess that's kind of the idea. We actually have a new demo posted on our myspace called "It's True," so go listen to it!

6/11/2007
I've been writing songs left-and-right (I guess that means "all the time" or something), and still in the process of figuring out the best way to get them all recorded. Jeremy and I worked on recording drums last week, which was kind of an adventure (I haven't been keeping up on my drumming as much as I should be...but don't be mad at me!!). Please??? I've been hitting up rehearsal studios quite a bit, so I should be back to relative B-A-ness in no time. Sooo anyway, hope everyone's June '07 is going splendidly.

5/1/2007
myrockstargallery.com has picked an Act As If photo to be their featured pic of the week! We're pumped. If you haven't been to their website, you NEED to check it out...they've taken pics for some rad bands like Brand New, Copeland, The Format, Jack's Mannequin, Panic At The Disco, and a ton more.

ACT AS IF on http://www.myrockstargallery.com/

3/27/2007
I just set up an "official blog"...and will be keeping it updated with my random thoughts on life, music, and whatever else I feel like talkin 'bout. So if you're so inclined, you can check it out here!

2/10/2007
Thanks to everyone who came out to our show at The Alley the other night, and for buying our pre-sale tickets...it was a great time for us, and hopefully for you too! An Angle and Everybody Else are both great bands (as well as great dudes), so it was a pleasure to meet them, and get to watch them play. We should be getting some pictures from the show soon, so anyone who wasn't able to make it can see what they missed out on :)

12/5/2006
It's been a busy past couple of months! Although we haven't been able to hit up the 'ol recording studio, as previously anticipated...we HAVE been pretty busy spray-painting hundreds of cd give-aways (very cool, trust me), dabbling with some shows, and lastly...I've been getting over my 3rd (yes...third) bout of pneumonia in about 16 months. I rule. Anyway, things will be fairly slow for December, given the holidays and such, however the new year promises to bring much more activity...I can't wait :) Expect some new jams soon!

11/7/2006
Wow, thanks to the people who made it to The Gig on Sunday...and stayed for our late night / early morning set. I think it's safe to say that watching a band at 12:15am is a stretch for just about anyone, so I really appreciate it! It was a fun show nonetheless, and we got to play with 2 amazing bands/friends/sexy-boys Barcelona and Dynamite Walls. If you haven't heard of them yet, and are into impressing your friends by finding great new bands...you should probably do yourself the favor and get into their music!

9/14/2006
SONG LICENSED FOR NEW ABC REALITY SHOW!!
"Please Catch Up" was recently licensed to be played during an episode of "Greg Behrendt's Wake Up Call"...which is a new reality show that will be debuting this fall on ABC. Primetime baby, woo- hoo :) It should be a really cool show; the guy--Greg Behrendt, has done a lot of cool stuff, including being a consultant for Sex & The City, having a comedy special on Comedy Central, and most recently co-authoring the bestselling book "He's Just Not That Into You"...which I should probably read or somethin :) I'll letcha know as soon as I get more info on when the specific episode is going to air...so we can all make popcorn and watch it together.

8/30/2006
We still need a drummer! To pass the time...I've been writing some new songs, which will hopefully be recorded late September/early October. I think they're just fantastic...so I'm excited to see what everyone thinks about them. Hopefully soon.

6/26/2006
REVIEW IN SKRATCH MAGAZINE!!
"This seven-song EP debut from Southern California artist Peter Verdell is a slick, catchy package that is sure to turn heads in the music industry. With a vaguely emo/hard-rock alternative style and a truckload of biting hooks, this is music that haunts and inspires. Though up until recently Verdell was doing solo acoustic sets live, he's finally settled on a permanent quartet to bring a harder edge to his live shows. While many young musicians make obvious blunders on debut albums, it's tough to find any fault with this disc. Perhaps the only thing wrong with it is that it isn't a full-length album." - Dug Fredricksen

Writer and Video Director extraordinaire Jonathan London played "On Your Hands and Knees" on his online radio show last Thursday night (idobi.com), which was sweeet! He's done videos for a ton of cool bands (including Reggie and the Full Effect, Reel Big Fish, HelloGoodbye, and The New Amsterdams), so he's pretty much the man. Let's see what else...ohh I finally purchased my very own rhodes piano! It weighs about a ton, and is in need of some serious TLC--but God it is going to be worth it. Well that's about it for now; check back for some upcoming shows in April!

2/17/2006
7-song EP now available HERE! It might be the best $5 you've spent since like, 1998 or something.

1/18/2006
Yesterday my first EP was mastered by Louie Teran (Snow Patrol, Phantom Planet, etc) and last night I was finally able to enjoy the fruits of my labor! And what tasty fruit indeed. In about 3 short weeks I'll have 1000 copies for you to taste yourselves...all packaged prettily and dying to find their way into your music player of choice. In the meantime you can check out the myspace page to hear some of the new audio--myspace.com/actasif.
